THE HISTORY OF ST PETERS HALL CARDIFF
Cardiff's Iconic Event Venue - Established in 1955
The land where St Peter’s Hall Cardiff (SPHC) stands today has a rich and varied history, with documented and undocumented uses dating back to 1810.
Over the years, it has served as stables for horses belonging to the affluent residents of Richmond Road, a timber yard linked to Cardiff Docks via the city's original canal system, and even a site for controlled gambling on sporting events and games.
From Parish Hall to Premier Venue
The current building was constructed in 1955, following damage to St Peter’s Church and surrounding buildings during World War II air raids.
Originally serving as a parish hall, it became a central hub for the parishioners of St Peter’s Church, hosting community events, church services, and even operating as a movie theatre under the leadership of parish priests.
In the 1980s, St Peter’s Hall began its transformation under the ownership of Spiro Borg, from a traditional parish hall into a dedicated event space, marking the start of its journey to becoming the iconic venue it is today.
This period saw the hall evolve, welcoming larger celebrations, professional catering, and an expanded range of events, laying the foundation for the SPHC experience guests enjoy today.
The New Era of SPHC
2018 - BIG CHANGES TO ST PETERS HALL CARDIFF
In 2018, a new era of SPHC began when Kris Agland and his family-run business, TCT Group, took the reins of this iconic venue.
Their vision was to restore St Peter’s Hall to its former glory while incorporating modern technologies and innovative ideas to future-proof SPHC.
Since then, the venue has undergone a complete refurbishment, with substantial investments in its infrastructure, as well as a rebrand to attract a wider and more diverse audience.
However, the timing was far from perfect.
Shortly after renovations began, COVID-19 restrictions were placed on the venue - lasting for nearly two and a half years.
Keeping SPHC going during this period was a tremendous challenge, but through hard work, resilience, and the unwavering support of many, the venue emerged stronger than ever.
Since restrictions lifted, SPHC has thrived, cementing its place in Cardiff’s event scene for years to come.
Kris’s main goal was to provide a venue that offers exceptional value for money while maintaining the look and feel of a premium establishment.
With traditional hospitality values at its core, SPHC continues to deliver unparalleled service in a setting where history and modern excellence meet.
Since opening in 1955, SPHC has built a lasting legacy as Cardiff’s iconic event venue—and we look forward to writing the next chapter in this fabulous building’s rich history.

We are just a five-minute walk from Queen Street Train Station and situated along multiple bus routes, making it simple for guests to reach us.
Additionally, ample street parking is available within a two-minute walk of the venue, ensuring convenience for those arriving by car.
